The same piece of polished amber can take on various appearances depending on the ambient light. Any photograph on this web site can show only one particular appearance of an amber carving in a unique light condition. The actual pieces, however, often appear somewhat different than they do in the photograph, because the light conditions always vary.
As an example, the following photos show the same carving viewed in outdoor light entering from different angles, and on different backgrounds. All of the photos were taken within a few minutes of each other. The piece is carved in Dominican blue amber, and measures about 4" in length.
